Board of Education Opening

After five hours of interviews and deliberation last night, the Sylvania Board of Education has chosen Kimberly Conklin to fill the seat recently vacated by Vicki Donovan Lyle. Ms. Conklin attended Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo’s College of Law. She has been an attorney for 18 years and is currently with The Kerger Law Firm in Sylvania. Prior to her work as an attorney, she spent four years in the United States Army where she served as a platoon leader and executive officer. Ms. Conklin moved to Sylvania in 1998 and currently has two children attending Sylvania Schools. She is also an active member of the Girl Scouts of Northwest Ohio. We welcome Ms. Conklin and look forward to working with her. 
 
Kimberly Conklin will be sworn in at our next regular board meeting, which is this Monday, November 16 at 5:00 pm. Thank you to the eight finalists for meeting last night and to all the applicants for expressing an interest in serving our district. We appreciate our community’s dedication to education and their willingness to work for the betterment of our schools.

Sylvania Board of Education met this evening to discuss the 47 applications received for the open board seat recently vacated by Vicki Donovan-Lyle. Eight applicants have been contacted for an interview:

We thank everyone who took the time to apply for the board seat and look forward to interviewing the eight finalists during the executive session of a special board meeting this Wednesday, November 11 at 4:00. We hope to have a final decision at our regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday, November 16.

A Message from Sylvania Board of Education:

 

Vicki Donovan-Lyle, a member of the Sylvania Board of Education since 2004, will be stepping down from the Board effective November 4, 2020. She recently had her second grandchild and will be pursuing more time with her family. We appreciate Ms. Donovan-Lyle’s years of service and wish her well.

 

The resignation leaves an opening for which we are now accepting applications. If you are a district resident and are interested in joining the Board, please complete the online application. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, November 6, 2020 at 5pm. The Board plans to fill the position at its November 16th regular board meeting.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Per Ohio Revised Code 3313.11, this is a temporary appointment that lasts through December 31, 2021. In order to fulfill the remainder of the seat’s term (through December 31, 2023), the appointee would need to run in and win a special election held in November 2021.
