11/16 - Email to all families

Dear Sylvania Schools Families,

We are writing to inform you that based on today’s data released from Toledo Lucas County Health Department, Sylvania Schools will transition to remote instruction for all students PreK-12 on Monday, November 23, 2020.

Sylvania Schools has an established criteria that will determine when we will transition between learning models. As a district, we have continued to use data from the Lucas County Health Department along with our established metric (link to our criteria) to determine our next steps.

Today’s data:

Lucas County cases/100K - 394.54  (link to data)

Lucas County positivity rate - 10-15%  (link to data)

As both data points have now exceeded the established numbers for switching to remote learning, our district will begin full remote learning next week. We will remain hybrid this week to allow the transition for our teachers to set expectations with students for remote learning. Students should take home any materials and personal belongings they may need during this time.

Some families have expressed concern about students attending school throughout the remainder of this week. Due to personal home-based health and safety precautions, while operating under the burden of the pandemic, we will accommodate parents who elect to keep their child(ren) at home. Please note, students who stay home for the rest of this week are responsible for completing all assigned work.

We will remain on the remote learning model until December 17, 2020 which is the end of the first semester. We will continue to monitor and evaluate to help determine when our students will be back in our buildings for hybrid learning. Please note, we will regularly communicate with our families to keep them apprised of future steps  that our district will take regarding a pivot between instructional models.
