The 5-year Strategic Plan is a documented outline of the tasks that were determined necessary to reach specific goals in the 5 priorities. Ultimately, the Strategic Plan is a "living document" that is continuously monitored, evaluated and updated to align District decisions to the mission and vision.

Strategic Plan Background
August 2021 - Our district has partnered with ESC of Cuyahoga County to facilitate this exciting initiative that will guide us for years to come. In this process of creating a Strategic Plan, we will take a comprehensive look at all aspects of this school district, identify the most pressing needs, set realistic goals and begin to implement specific strategies. Our overarching goal must be to constantly improve what we do and how we do it to offer better teaching and great learning opportunities for our students. To learn more about the process, please view the presentation to the Board of Education on August 23.

September 2021
Lead Team meeting - The purpose of the Lead Team was to engage local leaders in an orientation of the planning process, brainstorm significant groups representing the community, and identify individuals who might represent those interest groups. The Lead Team helped identify the diverse voices, within the school district and community, that need to be heard, and then brainstorm names of people to invite them to the first meeting of the Management Team. The Management Team will become the ongoing group of individuals who will participate in Strategic Planning meetings over the next several months and make recommendations. The Lead Team was comprised of key community leaders from a variety of sectors including community organizations, businesses, the city & township, and more.
The outcome of the meeting was a list of over 100 individuals in industries, organizations, and other categories that will be invited to become the ongoing group of individuals who will participate in Strategic Planning meetings over the next several months and make recommendations as a Management Team. The list includes Alumni, Arts Community, Banks, Boosters, Business Partners, Childcare/Preschool, CIC, Family Services, First Responders, Food Service, Foundations, HBA Realtors, Healthcare, Higher Education, Library, Media, Municipalities, PTO, Recreation, Religious, Retired Educators, Rotary, Senior Center, Sylvania Chamber, STEM, Students, Classified Staff, SEA, Trades, & Youth Organizations.

October 2021
Individuals who were invited to attend the Management Team attended a meeting on October 19. The focus was an overview of the process and role of the Management Team members. Over 60 were in attendance, representing each area of the district, social services (such as Sylvania Area Family Services, Sylvania Community Services, and the library), district staff, parents, community members, several industries, and more. Those in attendance who want to participate going forward will begin gathering community feedback over the coming weeks. Additionally, focus groups will be held to gather more information about the strengths and needs of the district. This is the beginning of the Needs Assessment phase as data is collected.

What does the Management Team decide?
The Management Team is not a decision-making team. Their role is to guide the process based on the information gathered throughout the coming months from the many groups. Having a Management Team provides the structure for the various committees to report their findings and ensure that a cohesive plan is recommended.

January 2022
Staff members were invited to participate in focus groups to provide input for the Strategic Plan. Each building held a session for staff members. An online survey was also sent to staff members for anyone who was not able to participate in person.

April 2022
The District's Strategic Planning continued with a daylong retreat that included over 50 participants. The attendees included high school students, staff members from a variety of buildings and departments, parents, and community members representing a wide range of organizations and District partners. The day was focused on small and large group discussions regarding the vision, mission and goals of the District. This initiative will continue as data from participants and focus groups is used as input to the next steps in the process.

Spring/Summer 2022
Committees met to specifically determine the goals and tasks for the Strategic Priorities. Committees were comprised of District Administrators, staff members and community members.

The work was documented and presented at the September 12 Board of Education meeting (link 0:43-53:30). The Board of Education approved the five-year Strategic Plan on September 28, 2022.
