volleyball The Sylvania School District and the Sylvania Community are dedicated to our students and their athletic endeavors. The Sylvania Athletic Foundation recently built the Mel Nusbaum Stadium at Southview High School which opened in Fall 2014. The stadium provided the Southview Cougars with a stadium at their school location allowing them to have true home games. The Sylvania Athletic Foundation also renovated Cats Stadium which is home to the Northview Wildcats.

The Arts

Sylvania School District offers a myriad of art opportunities for students including art, band, and chorus. The Department of Teaching and Learning supports the mission of educating our students to make a difference. We execute the district core values of excellence, student-centered learning, collaboration, accountability, diversity and community-oriented decision-making in everything we do each and every day.

The department oversees all aspects of the K-12 curriculum, course offerings, professional development, career and technical education services, gifted education, alternate learning opportunities and assists with intervention planning in all 12 schools. Our goal is to work collaboratively with teacher-based leadership teams at all levels to facilitate the development of curriculum aligned with Ohio’s New Learning Standards for all academic areas.

These learning standards include the full implementation of the new English Language Arts and mathematics Common Core standards. Selection of new materials for classrooms and instruction is our top priority as we transition to these new standards. Through teacher-led professional development planning, our department is leading the way for positive change and development of best practices and systems to support teachers, parents, and students to be successful.
