Parents frequently ask these questions:

What sorts of fine arts classes can students take?

Students wishing to explore fine arts may take courses in the basic principles of art and design, like Art Foundations and Computer Graphic Design. They may also explore more advanced interesting in 2D Design and 3D Design with focuses in drawing, painting, metalworking, ceramics, and a variety of other media. The opportunity for advanced study exists as well with honors levels associated with several classes, Computer Graphics Design II, and AP Art History.

What sorts of performing arts extracurricular programs can students take?

Southview produces two stage productions per year: a fall play and spring musical. Productions are chosen with large casts to involve as many students on and off stage as possible. In addition, students interested in performing arts typically join the speech and debate team, which offers competitive outlets in individual dramatic and humorous performance, as well as partnered opportunities.

What music programs are offered?

Southview students can join instrumental performance groups including Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Honors Band, and Jazz Band. The Marching Band provides the opportunity to play each Friday in the fall for the Southview Cougars football team. Many students also join the symphonic ensemble supporting the spring musical. In addition to instrumental performance, students may complete one or more years of Symphonic Choir, which provides opportunities in performance and competition.

What about competition?

Southview students compete every year in the fine and performing arts. Local and national art shows, OMEA music competition, theatre competitions, and more are available. Southview students represent the school well in these competitions every year.
